Why is my stainless steel rusting

Why is the stainless steel on my step bars, grill guard, and other places rusting?
Stainless means “stain less, not stain free or care free,” according to all of the suppliers of nerf bars and steps or grill guards. You the customer needs to know that Stainless Steel products must be cleaned and waxed like you would chrome, although maybe less often. With the salt and calcium chloride used on the roads today for snow removal, stainless products are going to stain and light rust may occur that must be cleaned off to maintain the shine. The idea that stainless steel products require no care at all is not logical.

Normal cleaning only requires mild detergents. Never use steel wool or high abrasive cleaners. Waxing once or twice a year in harsh climates is necessary to keep the product looking like new. So, to save you and your customer some misunderstandings, please inform him or her as to the proper care and maintenance of stainless products. Hopefully this will save you much time Clicand effort.
